Xbox live help! Wireless Adapter DNS Failed?
I have wireless internet. I just bought the wireless adapter from microsoft. Whenever i do the test, the DNS fails. everything else before it is connected or confirmed. When i go to automatic for the DNS settings, the test fails (in automatic, the DNS is the same as my IP address. When i do manuel, i type in numbers that i got from the ipconfig /all on the command prompt. I tried contacting my ISP but they are retards and didnt know what the hell they were doing. I am using Time Warner Cable.
Also, my xbox is connected to my motom (called motorola) and is connected. I don’t know a thing about routers. I have one but i never needed to use it. I took an ethernet cable and connected my modom to my router to see if that would work but nothing happened.
I really need a detailed explanation for this problem. I dont know a lot of computer terms so please explain that too. Thanks!
Your xbox cannot have the same IP as your computer while on at the same time. This will cause an IP conflict. You state to have updated the IP address in your wireless router to match that of your pc via ipconfig /all. You need only set the clone MAC address on the router to match that of your PC that has already be authorized by your cable company and set the IP address of the router as DHCP (auto detect). You need to access your new wireless router by plugging directly into it. In the control panel of that router you need to access the area in which you can set the MAC address or enter a Cloned MAC address. This will be the funny looking number from your ipconfig /all report not the one that looks like a typical ip address, it will have letters and numbers.
The modem is set up to the MAC address of your computer that is why your xbox works when plugged directly into it. The modem thinks that the 360 is your computer. Set the Close MAC address on your wireless router, plug an eithernet cord into the WAN port of the router then plug the other end into your modem ethernet port. You can then either use your computer wireless or connect it directly to one of the ethernet ports of your wireless router which I am assuming has at least 4 direct ethernet ports.
