How do I hook up a wireless network to my DSL?
I have Qwest DSL service. My mom is visiting and she has an Apple ibook with a built in Airport. Previously, she had visited I had Comcast cable internet and she had no problems getting on to my network. The DSL is just not working. I have a Microsoft MN-700 router hooked up the same way as it was hooked up when I had cable internet. The only difference is the service and the modem. I was able to check the settings on the router and there are no security blocks up to prevent outside access. Besides switching back to cable, how can I solve this? I’ve spent a couple hours on tech support with Qwest, but they couldn’t help.
Some questions to ask..
When was the last time mom’s wirelesss worked
Does the PC actually see your router
Is the router compatable with the latop A/B/G/N wireless
There are alot of good places to start from the others,
I have seen this alot and “usually” boils down to a WEP issue,
I’m thinking , It says it connects but “low/no connectivity” The wireless see the router but can’t get past it..
In addition to what others said, Go into your router config (usually 192.168.0.1) get the manual to be sure.
Find the wireless setting area, there “should” be a WEP area (also verify you are connecting to your router) check SSUID (Name of the router broadcasted)
If the WEP password is ******* change it to something you like..WRITE IT DOWN.
Go to your laptop, right click on your routers signal, some where in your config/properties (there abouts) there should be a place to enter this WEP code…..
I read alot of this same problem here “usually” a WEP thingy
Anywho just another thought,
Hope this helps
