Wired or wireless LAN for data transfer?

hey I noticed that the data transfer rate between my 2 computers Wireless laptops are between 300-500 kb / s (with wi-fi router Netgear WGR 614) is normal for WLAN? (I think too slow!) I know that 802.11g = 54 Mb / s, so why I am getting there! And I try to wiring also to get a good speed? (Especially me looking to try some games Lan) tnx

802.11g = 54 Mbps That is 54 megabits, not megabytes. 1 byte> = 8 bits which means that, theoretically, you can download 6.75 megabytes per second, but in reality you will get much less than that, because of the way your operating system transmits data, bandwidth traffic, the protocol used and interference radio, among other factors. Such a velocity is typical of a Wireless-G connection. For LAN transfers faster to use a gigabit LAN connection.
