Please help with wireless network!?
I’ve never done this before. I’m using a Westell model 6100 that came with my Verizon DSL package and a Netgear wireless router. I’m trying to get my connection running to my laptop.
I had everything connected, all the lights that need to be on are, but I cannot get the internet through the router. When I plug everything in as normal, I get internet.
Here’s what I do, like it says on the CD. I unplugged the ethernet cable that ran from the modem to the computer and plugged it into the internet port of the router. I then used the cable that was included with my router to run an ethernet cord from one of the router’s LAN ports over to my desktop.When I run the internet through the router, however, I get no internet on my Laptop OR desktop.
I even went to the 192.168.1.1 site to connect to the router and finished all the steps. It said that I succesfully completed setup, and that I should have internet access but I did not. Help me, PLEASE!!
Before we get started, I am assuming that your Internet connection works without a router. When you know that works, you can proceed.
In general, the router looks like a computer when it logs into the Internet through it. So whatever settings you use for your computer, use for your router too. Some DSL services require that you use a PPPoE type of connection. If your computer uses that, your router should also. But newer DSL modems to all of that, so you might use a Dynamic setting.
Go back into your router setting at 192.168.1.1
Then go to the WAN or Internet setting. Make it match.
When you have that set, your router should have an Internet connection confirmation.. (OK or something).
From there, you should get the Internet on your computer, when it is plugged into the router.
Maybe you have to turn off your modem for a few moments and turn it back on, so it can restart the connection.
