netgear wireless router as access point
how do i use a wireless router as an access point in my wireless network?

I currently have a wireless network with my internet being verizon DSL. The router I have is a dsl modem/wireless router combined in one.

What I want to do is buy a second wireless router to use as an internet source for my xbox 360. The 360 wireless usb adapter is a rip-off at $100. I want to just use this second router to pick up the signal, and then have it plugged in through ethernet to the xbox 360.

How can I do this – can I use any normal linksys/netgear/dlink wireless router?

Sorry, a router will not work this way. Routers will not talk to routers wirelessly.

What you need is a gaming adapter or also known as a network bridge.

EDIT:
Router cascading, as proposed below, can not be used as a wireless to wireless connection as the questioner is asking for. It can only be used to expand a network, but the second router still needs to be wired to the main router.
