How I can connect a wireless connection in my apartment?
I have only one computer, an HP laptop with a capablities LAN, I have BellSouth DSL through the phone line, and I just bought a wireless router NETGEAR his fa. Did I buy the wrong thing? if so what should I get? can be connected to a DSL connection through the telephone line? NEED HELP!
This is how you need hardware. to connect your telephone wall-line to your ADSL Modem. Ethernet cable from your DSL modem to your wireless routers WAN (Internet port) Turn on your ADSL modem and the wireless router. For the first time the configuration of your router it is best to connect the laptop to the router using an ethernet cable. Plug your laptop into a ethernet port and the # 1 port ethernet routers. On your laptop, open a web browser and type your routers IP address in the Address bar. Netgear uses 192.168.0.1 usually or 192.168.1.1, confirm this in your manual. The manual will also tell you the username and default password to access the router. Now go to the WAN configuration Routers and select your internet connection type. DSL uses PPPOE and you generally will also see an area to type your username and password ISP. Seek wireless configuration section and the name of your router in the box labeled SSID. Do not turn on wireless security at all until you get everything work. Save the settings and you should. Unplug your laptop and activate its wireless capability and you should see a list of wireless networks in your area. Select the name and click connect. That should suffice. After verifying that you can get on the net then I suggest you turn on WEP security or WAP on your router and choose a security key. This will prevent your neighbors from leeching your Internet connection.
