Ethernet Connection ?

My Laptop (IBM ThinkPad T20 w/ Wind. Xp Home Edition/2000) isn’t recognizing when I have a modem plugged into it or an ethernet cord. And my NetGear Wireless Adapter and router won’t install correctly because of this. Oh and does anyone know how to reset to factory setting without a CD. ?
No I havent tried a USB Modem.
Am I suppose to do this on the laptop that can’t get internet ? Or the Desktop I’m on now ?

First off plugin the Netgear Wireless Adapter then go to Microsofts Web site and look for nd download the drivers for the Netgear Wireless Adapter.
Plug the Ethernet Cable direct to your computer to access the net.
THen you pull the Power Adapter from both your Internet Service Providers Modem and your Router, Shut your computer clear off.
Now in this exact order.
Plug in your your ISP’s Modem and wait a minimum of 1 minute.
2nd Plug in your Router and again you must wait at leaast 1 minute.
Now you can restart your computer and wait for it to completely boot up now you should be able to get on.
