netgear wireless router installation manual

by admin on February 2, 2010

who knows about wireless routers?

I have a SONY VAIO and have bought a NETGEAR RANGEMAX DG834N. I need to connect them. The laptop is wireless enabled and recognises the router showing it working . But the router needs an ethernet connection to get the router working which the sony doesn’t have.

Is there a manual way of configuring the router wirelessly?

The lights are on showing the router has connection to the net. But the installation disk will not complete..

How old is the Sony VAIO?

I can almost guarantee that the VAIO will have a LAN connection if it has wireless. Check the back of the laptop for a flap. Sometimes they hide the rear ports to make the laptop look nicer.

The RangeMAX DG834N is an ADSL router so you shouldn’t ‘NEED’ an Ethernet connection to it – you can just connect it to the ADSL line and configure it using the wireless connection.

The default SSID (or Network Name) should be either ‘netgear’ or ‘NETGEAR’ and there is usually no encryption so you should be able to connect straight to it using your wireless connection.

If you manage to get connected wirelessly to the router you can configure it using Internet Explorer by going to address http://192.168.0.1 and entering admin as the username and password as the password.
