WGT624 Wireless Router not working with new Cable Modem?
My router worked fine plugged into my old cable modem in that I had a desktop plugged into the router and it broadcast the a signal to my laptop. Both computers picked up the internet. I just got a new modem that has internet phone (yep, the cable company has all three services now) and the router doesn’t seem to connect to the internet anymore. The desktop won’t pick up the internet when I plug it into the router although it does when I plug it into the new cable modem. The laptop “sees” the router signal but can’t connect to the internet. Even when I pulg the laptop into the router it “says” it’s connected by an ethernet but can’t get the internet.
The cable company says the problem is with the IP addresses. They told me the desktop won’t “release” the IP address to the router or to the laptop. They won’t support Netgear equipment and advised calling Netgear helpdesk.
Can someone give me advice on this? I’ve lost all my original set-up instructions. Thanks Much
You will have to browse to the router using internet explorer. Open a command prompt and type in ipconfig. Type the default gateway in the address bar of your web browser. You will need the user name and password for your router. The default username is blank and the default password is password. If the password has been changed and you don’t know what it is you will have to reset the router. There is a button with the word reset next to it, push this in for about 10 seconds and then browse to the router and put in the default password. There should be an administration page once you get in and from here you can renew the IP address. Good luck.
