netgear wireless router ip conflict

by admin on February 8, 2010

Wireless network – either the PC or laptop can run, but never both at once. Ideas?

I just moved to Russia and signed up for DSL here. I can configure my wireless Netgear router (WGR614v6) and set the same wireless network it had in the U.S.. All that has changed is my DSL modem (D-Link DSL-2300U) and service provider (avangard.ru). So Now either my laptop or desk, never both at once. The desktop is connected by cable to the router, the laptop on the radio. If I leave the laptop, the desktop works fine. If I leave the desk and just outside the router, I get internet wireless laptop. Is it possible that there is some sort of IP address conflict? No error message appears. It works like this: Internet desktop works well, but at the moment the laptop is connected to the netowrk, all Internet stops working. After i disconnect any of the 2 devices on the network, internet resumes after a minute or restart the router or modem. Help! :)

strange but very interesting problem! Do you have the router configured to provide LAN IP addresses via DHCP? If not make sure you do. Secondly make sure that all computers are configured to automatically obtain IP address (no static IP addresses). Third, if you have a static LAN IP address (eg print servers) to ensure that they are not in the range that is also used by the DHCP server (for example, if you set the DHCP range 192.168.1.2-255 then assigned to a print server 192.168.1.3 pc 192.168.1.3 and you have also given a conflict. I suggest you adjust the DHCP range from 192.168.1.50 – 255 and use the 192.168.1.2-49 for static IP addresses. After making these changes and reboot the modem, router and PC, if there is a conflict or problem, go to the unit off, open command prompt (Start, Run – type cmd press Enter) and type in the system "ipconfig / release" wihthout appointment, then type "ipconfig / renew" without quotes and see if that helps.
