netowork wireless speeds vary?
I recently connected my desktop to my NETGEAR wireless router using a wireless PCI card NETGEAR. Netgear software installed, and away, I am now. The thing is that at some point the speed of wireless router with 54Mbps, 11Mbps others, now is 36mbps. The only difference even though the signal strength is low. Any ideas? Is this normal? I have 8mb broadband so it is only a problem if falls to 5.5, 2 or 1Mbps. Thanks In reply to danuitti There is a thick wall and floor to go well but I think it may take a different route, this being a door, immediately above the stairs, through a thin wooden door with spaces around them and then 5 feet to PC antenna. It is an omni directional antenna I guess not very good for different plants. Anyway, glad to hear that is normal.
This is normal. The location of the access point is key. Try to locate the point access as high as you can make it so that the signal is not impeded by obstacles. Moreover, the walls and floors will have a big impact on your signal strength and therefore its speed. The weeked the signal arrives, the slower the connection becomes. This is to maintain a reliable connection. Wi-Fi access points at a distance general good signal up to 100 feet or less without obstacles ….. throw obstacles such as walls and floors and the distance that this deminish lot. Another variable that can reduce its speed is interference. New phones (and cordless phones) operating in the 2GHz spectrum may be in the same frequency as your access point. Change the channel of your access point to CH11 to place the access point at the top of the …. frequency spectrum and, if possible, change the channel on your wireless phone to operate ……….( spectrum of not less readily available on wireless phones and definitely not possible on cell phones). You can buy antennas high gain, which will increase the scope of your access point …. I have a linksys and replaced the antenna with great results I hope this helps
