Netgear RangeMax wireless router?

I'm trying to connect to the Internet with my laptop and a nether router.The RangeMax Wireless problem is that elaptop º works well when I am using it in the living room where the router but when I go to my room which is about 6 or 7 feet from the signal is weak and then my laptop to receive the signal.I song have no idea what is wrong I use the same router at my girlfriends house and her room is farther than mine from the salon and works only fine.The router is Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824 model). The laptop is Acer Aspire 3680-2682 14.1in Widescreen Laptop PC w / Celeron M 440 1.86GHz, 14.1in WXGA, 512MB, 80GB, DVD / CDRW, 802.11g, Vista Home Basic.i updated to the newest firmwire both laptop and router.please any help would be appreciated.Happy New Year! What do you mean change the channel? I tried moving it from one place to another and still the same problem.
