Looking for a wireless receiver / switch?
I am presently residing in a house where the wireless router is on the other side of the house, and comes wireless signal through moderately, but like most of my desktop machines without wireless cards, I'm looking for a receiver wireless connections that can take several cable and broadcast network to the wireless router. Currently I have a laptop connected wirelessly to the router, which is your wireless bridge and Ethernet ports and Ethernet cable goes around a corner to a switch, and thus to wired computers. In addition to the manual assignment IP addresses, the connection works for connectivity in general, but the laptop is not mine, and I would like to have a laptop computer to other computers Internet connection. USB wireless adapters for computers with cable are out, computers are unable cable for strong wireless reliable connection, tried several different adapters, netgear etc.
There are wireless bridges (bridge working group is a small variation) are available. The last I checked were generally more expensive than the typical cable / dsl router / access point units. I've also seen labeled units range extenders, what could be just wireless bridges or repeaters. I'm not particularly sure and I'm not familiar with these units. What I'm most familiar with is another option, because that's what I use for most all of my wireless network and I write software that runs on. If you feel adventurous, you could get one of the routers (Linksys WRT54GL and others) that can be flashed with a third party firmware such as OpenWRT or DD-WRT and set it as a wireless bridge.
