Port Forwarding wont work…. HELP?
All right I’ve been trying to set up a home server today so I can get my music wherever I go, and it works when i go to http://localhost/
and it asks for a password (which I set up) and it all works. Problem is when I try to Port Forward Port 80, no one can type in my IP address (with “:80″ at the end of it, which really isnt necessary) and come to the server.
I have a Netgear WGR614v6 Wireless Router
Hardware Version: V8
Firmware Version: V1.0.17_1.0.17NA
In command prompt, it showed my IP address as 10.0.0.2 (I know what my Internet Ports IP address is.
So Port Forwarding/Port Triggering, I added a new address with
Service Type: Port Forwarding
Service: HTTP
Port Begin: 80
Port End: 80
IP: 10.0.0.2
It wont work after entering that, what must I do?
Yes I disabled all of my firewalls
With your router, you need to change the port used on it for management!
Most routers use PORT 80 as the default for management of the router so you don’t have to enter a port to manage it like
http://192.168.1.1:81 etc Since your router uses that port, it can’t forward it or it wont work..
SO login to the router and set the ROUTER port to 8080 or 81 etc then your port forwarding should work! (You may also need to allow Internet Management of the router- since that will BLOCK port 80 also!)
If it were me, I would set the SERVER to run on something besides 80 make it 81 or 8080 etc. Then you don’t have the issue.
And check with your ISP to see if running servers is allowed. Like the guy above many prohibit that use!
Been there done that – learned the hard way.
