netgear wireless router problems with vista

Please help me to set up a home network connecting my laptop and my desktop pc. i have a netgear wireless rout

I cannot get this network to hook up after trying 50 different ways . my laptop is new and has windows vista…my pc is a 2006 and has windows xp. The netgear people tell me the computers should recognize each other without doing anything…yeah right. both are connecting to the internet with no problem through my netgear wireless router . I have a DSL connection. thanks

if you got them both on the internet then what’s the problem? if you want file sharing for your network then you have to enable that in the network settings. although it may make you more vulnerable to identity theft if you share your files over an unencrypted wi-fi network.
