netgear wireless router reset switch

by admin on February 16, 2010

Why can’t more than one person in my house log on to the wireless network?

We have a netgear router and virgin media internet. The internet works fine on all of our laptops but only one person at at a time can use the wireless internet network. We can connect to the network but not the intenet. We have tried to switch it off and reset it but it doesn’t work.

make certain that both the router and the computers are set to obtain ip addresses automatically….also log in to the router and be sure its network settings have a range of ip’s for enough connections for your network (i.e. “starting ip 192.168.0.10 ending ip 192.168.0.50) in the example you should be able to connect up to 40 pc’s to the router, although you don’t have that many, its a good idea to simply have the factory defaults set up for this as depending on when they connect the laptops may use more than one ip address on the same network. Finally check your isp for how much bandwith you have as this may cause the problem…..because you say they can all connect to the network but not all access the internet, its either a bandwith issue or your router is set for only one at a time connection.
