Home network – switch before router?
Hello! We have a Netgear WGR614 v6 wireless router slows down a lot when we have the two computers laptops connected via wireless and desktop connected via ethernet. So I bought a switch (Linksys EZXS55W) in the hope that it could divide the connection out to my desktop and two laptops on the router to alleviate traffic on the router. So I have the modem connected to the switch, change to the desktop and the router and the router to two laptops and it works, if only for the desktop or just for the router. It seems like a matter of intellectual property but I have not the impressive networking. Will you ever? And it is possible networking with the installation? If you can not recommend a router better? Thank you very much for any help!
if you can get to work at all, you're lucky I did split a DSL line with a switch and it worked OK, but certainly not the way to go. And it was only temporary until a router was in place. It also would not work for everything, but it was good enough for gain acceptance for a short time. I had a Linksys WRT54G router for a long time and never had problems with it wired or wireless. Many people recommend them, I also ran a Belkin F5D7230-4, which is cheaper, and seems to do well.
