netgear wireless router static ip
Need advice on wireless network setup please!?

Hello everyone I am Ok, not once, but newbe and IT, but I'm not an engineer on the net! Currently I have a Netgear WPN824 wireless router model Ok the problem is that I have port forwarding enabled and yes you guessed it I have DHCP enabled well, so when ever you change the ip address of my dock to dock faille applications such as port assignments outlined in the wrong ip address! Yes I would like to turn in all the static IP address, but my brother like usual.! Is it possible or 1 plug in another access point in the current router make this a DHCP server? and have the Netgear has a static IP address? Or would it be better to sell the router and get another one? you can get one that can do both things? and have two virtual networks or something? Thanks Paul

Paul, all you have to do is set the machine ONE you have set for forwarding port to a static address. The fact that the router is issuing DHCP addresses does not mean that all machines must have one that way! Just to configure the machine with a static to an address (outside the DHCP pool range) and forward it to port. The router will work, the machine is running, the port forward going to work, and the other machines on the network still get DHCP addresses! Easy to fix. Add: you have to establish a static IP subnet mask, the gateway address and DNS information. In general, gateway and DNS IP will be the same as the router. If you are saying Internet is your DHCP and that is what is changing … will have to contact your ISP and get a static IP address or live with the changes.
