Making A Printer Wireless/Networked without using “File/Print Share”?
I want to create an envirorment were I could print to my HP Deskjet 4140 USB printer without the need to keep the tower computer on all the time. (file share feature) I have a Netgear router. I am unsure what to buy an adaptor or a print server. I do not want to buy a whole new router. Also note, that the device will need to be combatiable with VISTA
Check HP.com and see if they have a network adapter that is compatible with your printer. HP does offer network adapter kits that work with some HP printers. If they have one for your printer it will come with instructions on how to install it. Also if you are close to buying a new printer, buy one that is both USB and network, that way you can just connect your printer directly to your router.
