Should I buy a 40″ LCD or 42″ Plasma?
I’m looking to get a new tv for the bedroom after the old one (an Insignia 32″ Plasma) had all sorts of problems after 3 months of use. I don’t want something like that to happen with an inferior brand again so I’m going to buy either a Samsung 40″ LCD (Model: LN40B750, 1080p 240 Hz) or a Panasonic 42″ Plasma (Model: TC-P42G10, 1080p THX certified).
There’s a pretty big price difference between the two: Samsung at $1170~, Panasonic at ~860 though both are from this year and have had equally great reviews. I’ll be watching at 8-10 feet, some video games, some movies, some sports/tv. I don’t have much experience with HDTVs but I have had problems with plasmas so I’m weary of another one even though its had great reviews and its much cheaper; I also hear plasmas are best at big sizes upward of 50″. I’m trying to balance image quality, price, burn-in issues, tv look/weight. Two weeks to decide, what’ll it be??
Both of those TVs are outstanding TVs!
The upper hand would have to go to the Panasonic:
1) It’s cheaper
2) Has better pic quality…2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio(Panasonic) vs 150,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio(Samsung)
3) 600hz refresh rate(Panasonic) vs 240hz refresh rate(Samsung)
4) .001ms response time(Panasonic) vs 2ms response time(Samsung)
And Panasonic TVs have a lower failure rate then Samsung’s!
If you’re worried about Plasma’s…don’t! The one you had before was a cheap piece of junk! The Panasonic is a much better brand. For more info and facts about Plasma, see this site: http://www.plasma-lcd-facts.co.uk/
Hope this helps!
