Plasma or DLP Projection?
I just moved into a bigger place, and my 27″ tube television seems too small from where it is in the room. So I have decided to upgrade. I have been looking, and I plan on purchasing a new TV 46 inches or up. I have seen fairly decent reviews for a Samsung 51 inch DLP online, for about $1000.00. I plan on spending no more than $1500.00, which looks like that would get me a decent plasma TV. I understand a Plasma is bad on power usage, but is a DLp any different? I am not too concerned about the drop off in quality on the DLP? I usually sit right in front of the TV and I do not have large gatherings where people may have a bad view if they are at an angle. I do not plan on mounting my TV on the wall, a even though it seems as though projection televisions are on the way out, it seems like the best bet for me right now. Any good reason why I should get a flat panel plasma instead?
I had a similar situation just recently, and I decided to purchase a Samsung 1080p 52″ LCD TV for only $1400. It really depends on where your going to put the TV. In a room with a lot of windows, neither. Both have ENORMOUS glare problems. The plasma screen as you probably know has a glass screen which reflects the sunlight like a window. The DLP tv has a dull black screen which also reflects light but not as bad. still bad though. I to, prefered the DLP TV until about 5 visits to best buy and about 20 visits to bestbuy.com. The DLP tv really has horrible viewing angles, and the only place you can really get a good view from is directly in front on a level viewing angle. If your going to be watching alot of movies and playing video games, Plasma would definetly be my recomendation because of the high contrast ratio which produces deep blacks and bright whites. if its going to be a home theater tv, then DLP. also, the Samsung LED DLP tvs do not require you to replace the bulb at 3000 hours but instead give you 10x that at 30,000 hours. Here is a great one. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8749474&type=product&id=1202649424894
i know it is above your price range, but they go on sale every other week for 200 or 300 dollars off and will meet your range. hope all this info helps
