In setting up a home wireless network can I leave the main computer connected to the cable?
I have a desktop computer with Comcast cable internet. I want to set up a home wireless network for family member’s and visitor’s laptops to work in other rooms but I want to leave my desktop connected to the cable. How do I set up that connection? It appears that the cable from the cable modem has to connect to either my desktop or to a router but not both. Is there another way?
No problem.
From the wall to the cable modem to the router. Most routers support 4 wired connections and up to 32 wireless connections.
Instead of connecting to the modem, your PC will connect to the router instead. As an aside, there is a HUGE benefit to the PC’s on the network, and that is a tremendous increase in security
