setup linksys wireless router guide

I can not for the life of me create a home network?

My main computer uses xp and a laptop running vista connected to the internet via linksys wireless router. Both computers are setup for sharing and in the same workgroup. I even went through the network setup wizard in my xp and used the disk on my laptop to sysnc the two but still nothing. What am I doing wrong or someone willing to guide me? Thanks.

So far it sounds like you’ve done what you need to. You’ve created shares on the computers, right? Set the permissions also? Double-checked all firewalling AND IP filtering (in the advanced section under your NIC properties)? They can ping eacher other?

If the answers to the above are all yes, I’d start by trying to open everything up. Turn the firewall completely off, open the permissions up to everybody/all, and so forth. Once you’re as wide open as you think you can be, if it works, then work backward, turning off permissions and such until it stops working. If it never gets to the point of working, you could post again listing absolutely everything you’ve done on both machines. Maybe you’ve overlooked something that someone will notice.
