wireless router access point difference
what is the difference between wireless router and wireless access point?

a router handles a bunch of wireless connections ( dhcp)
an access point is used to fill in a signal in an area where signal strength is weak – say in a big home , you need more than one wireless transmitter to cover weak spots
If you turn off the dhcp ( dynamic host whatever) in a router it becomes a simple access point
when the two are connected i.e acess point is connected to a lan ( 4 ports) of router the router handles it
if you had two routers hooked up like a router access point
it can be too confusing a network connection
if you tried to do things like internet banking ( with the security access) the other system may not allow it
you could turn off the dhcp in a router to make it an access point but if it reset ( power turned off and on for example) the router number 2 which is the access point in this example might reset and the dhcp come on
would cause major problems for nubes – guess it is easier and simpler this way
access points usually cost more than routers and are seldom on sale
