Wireless router problems. Have strong signal to laptop, but it won’t connect to the internet?

I just switched from a DSL internet set up to cable. I had a wireless gateway box that worked just fine with my laptop (with DSL). With the cable internet, I had to buy a wireless router. I have it hooked up and the laptop shows that it has an excellent signal, but it will not connect to the internet. I’m not a computer genius so hopefully someone can help me.

If you can’t access internet from any of your computers, then try to restart the modem and the router (turn the power off on both for about a minute, and then turn it back on). Then restart your computers. In 90% cases that does it. If doesn’t help, call your provider’s helpdesk.

If you mean that you can access internet from your desktop which has a wired connection, but not from your laptop through wireless, then you probably don’t have your wireless router configured right. In this case you need some one to do it for you.
