netgear wireless router-laptop connection problem?
I just moved and now I can’t figure out what I need to do to connect to my router. I’ve tried everything on my laptop. It picks up the signal but won’t connect. I have comcast, a netgear router wgr614, and a dell laptop. Any suggestions? Step by step help or sites to help me.
Just want to get my laptop connected! HELP!
Rest your router then do the following.
Connect the ethernet/internet cable from your modem to the WAN port on your router (its the only one with a different symbol above it the others are LAN ports).
Next use another ethernet cable to connect your PC to the LAN port on the router. Now log into the router to set it up. (See users manual how to log in depends on which router you buy.)
Once logged in you have to setup the internet connection. Use DHCP if you have a cable connection and use PPPoE if you have a DSL connection. If you use DSL you have to enter the info that was given to you by your internet provider.
Next you have to setup your wireless network.
Give your wireless network a name (also known as SSID) , network password, set security/encryption to WPA or WPA2. Set channel to Auto. Turn off any MAC address filtering, Turn off any port forwarding. Set channel to Auto. Save and exit. The password keeps others from using you internet for free and keeps your info safe from identity theft.
Disconnect the ethernet cable from your laptop. Click on the network icon on the bottom right of the task menu on your screen. Select your network. You may be prompted to enter the network password to access your network.
