Linking your computers

Have you ever thought about networking your computers at home? If you have a small collection of computers around of the house (and a small collection of computer users), you can connect each of these computers to each other and share data, software and hardware, including a single Internet connection. There are many creative uses for home networking, however it is an ideal situation when upgrading each computer to the same capacity is financially out of the question. In a home network, each computer has access to the machine better team in the group as if the equipment were their own.

Connecting computers with an Ethernet cable or wireless connection you can create a home network. The easiest and cheapest method of a wireless Ethernet, which requires a series of network cards, one cable for each computer, and a router. The network card is similar to the old modems we used in the past to connect to Internet, however, in a home network, is used to communicate with any computer that is connected to it.

You'll want to first select teams that are connected together and then install the network cards inside each one of them. After you connect a cable to each computer that will communicate with the server. These cables not connect to the server directly. Instead, you will connect to the router. To enable Internet access for each computer, this router will be connected to a modem host machine.

Once the hardware is configured correctly (have to read the kit's instruction manual for details), then can configure the Windows network on each machine. In Windows, you can configure a home network similar to how you set up an Internet connection. Only this time, you must define a LAN (Local Area Network).

Windows must walk through the creation of a LAN after starting the computer and complete the turn, can begin to connect one of their machines to the network. You can do this through Internet Explorer, type the address and the password required to access the router (the address and the password required to access the router will be in the router manual).

Connected to the network, each computer can send files back and forth, open programs on a remote computer, play sound files and videos saved on another computer, and share a single Internet account to browse the Internet, download files, or chat with someone in a whole different country. If a single printer is available in a single computer on the network, each computer connected can send and print documents. Children will enjoy the ability to play multiplayer games and adults will enjoy the ability to explode a single message to all at once or maintain a group calendar.

Since we are describing a home network that connect to the Internet, you are strongly recommended to install a protective firewall program thwart Internet viruses, worms, spyware or other malicious code. Firewalls prevent – but not repairs. Only antivirus and anti-spyware programs can reverse the damage. Therefore, you must install a firewall on your computer that allows access to the computer and then install an anti-virus and anti-spyware program on each of the teams remain in the network.

If you have files that should not be shared (bank statements, credit card information, etc), you can restrict access in one of several ways. You can place them in a new folder and then remove the "read" permissions for that folder. Or, you can specify who can (and do not can) to access specific files with a password in Windows Control Panel.
