Apartment T-1 to wireless router?
My building is wired with a T-1 line with free internet provided by the owner. I’m trying to set up my wireless router so I don’t have to run cat-5 cable all through the apartment, but it doesn’t seem to pick up a new/valid ip. However the connection works fine if I plug the laptop directly into the wall jack. Anyone able to help?
It sounds like the apartment has its own router setup and you are probably plugging the incomming line into your wireless routers WAN (Internet) port. Dont do that, plug it directly to one of the 4 ethernet ports in the back of the router. Then you need to log into your routers configuration settings abd disable the DHCP server so the apartments DHCP server will handle all the automatic IP addressing.
